Mayor Joshua A. Garcia, State Representative Patricia Duffy, and City Council President Tessa Murphy-Romboletti will read aloud the opening statements of the Declaration of Independence on Saturday, August 29, at 10 a.m. at Veterans Park.

The public is invited.

The reading, part of Holyoke’s observance of the nation’s 250th birthday, is being sponsored by Holyoke Veterans Services, the city’s Patriotic Events Committee, and the Mayor’s Office. Representative Duffy will present the city with a facsimile of the Declaration of Independence.

City Councilman Juan Anderson-Burgos will greet the gathering and introduce the readers.

In case of rain, the event will be held in the War Memorial Building, 310 Appleton Street.
