NORTH CATASAUQUA, Pa.: A new hot spot for ice cream, milkshakes and other chilled treats is serving up a side of artisan baked goods in Northampton County.
Mimi’s on Main, offering specialty sundaes, soft pretzels, pastries and more, opened July 24 at 1492 Main St. in North Catasauqua.

Owner Amy Huynh of Northampton is a lifelong ice cream fan and saw an opportunity to share that passion with the community.
“I was also in the restaurant industry, and so this is just something that I eased into and wanted to do,” Huynh said. “Ice cream makes people happy.”
The main attraction at Mimi’s on Main is the ice cream, with around 30 rotating hard ice cream flavors, including two dairy-free and two sugar-free varieties.

The Hershey’s Ice Cream flavors regularly rotate, with recent selections including blueberry cheesecake, butter pecan, caramel cookie twist, coconut chocolate almond, cookies & cream, cotton candy, dark chocolate raspberry truffle, green mint chip and peach, among others.
In the business’ first few weeks, banana pudding has been a top seller, shop associate Caroline Rodriguez said.
Guests can enjoy their ice cream in cups or cones and can also customize their orders by choosing from toppings such as rainbow or chocolate sprinkles, marshmallows, gummy bears, Oreos and Swedish fish; and syrups such as caramel, peanut butter and strawberry.

Ice cream starts at $3 for kids size, $4 for a small, $5 for a medium and $6 for a large.
Having trouble picking a flavor? Mimi’s also offers ice cream flights, featuring four scoops for $8.
Other chilled treats include banana splits, custom sundaes, milkshakes, sundae-style milkshakes (with toppings mixed in), ice cream sandwiches (ice cream sandwiched between cookies or waffles) and Asian novelties such as fruit-shaped ice cream.
In addition to ice cream, Mimi’s offers a rotating selection of fresh baked goods, including cookie dough brownies, dulce de leche cake, rainbow cake, chocolate croissants, pumpkin cream cheese blondies and cookies such as chocolate chip, white chocolate macadamia and oatmeal raisin.
There are also artisan soft pretzels, including plain, cheese, cinnamon sugar and pizza, with the latter featuring sauce and melted cheese.
“We’ve been getting a lot of positive feedback from the community, and we’re very grateful and appreciative of everyone who’s supporting us,” Huynh said.

“Starting in the fall, we also plan to offer some comfort foods and grab-and-go items like soups and sandwiches.”

Easton area news’We miss the laughter’: After fire, popular Lehigh Valley restaurant eyes fall reopening
WILLIAMS TWP., Pa. – Three months after a fire damaged and temporarily closed a much-loved restaurant in Northampton County, a comeback is on the horizon.
Iron Mule Restaurant & Bar, highlighting “twists on American classics and your favorite comfort foods,” is aiming to reopen this fall at 831 S. Delaware Drive in Williams Township, owner Kate Hug announced online.
The restaurant has been temporarily closed since the May 22 fire.
No injuries were reported in the two-alarm fire, and Hug thanked the Williams Township Fire Department and surrounding local fire departments that “worked tirelessly to contain the fire” and helped limit the building’s damage. Full story here.

Retailer opening 1st brick-and-mortar store at former GameStop spot in Northampton County
PALMER TWP., Pa. – A popular family-run business is expanding operations with its first physical storefront in the Lehigh Valley.
The first brick-and-mortar location of Kyogre Kards, a trading card game seller offering cards, figurines, accessories and more, is expected to open in September at 3087 William Penn Highway in Palmer Township, co-owner Kailei Picciotti told 69 News.
The new store, Kyogre Kards’ first brick-and-mortar location, will occupy a soon-to-be-renovated space that previously housed a GameStop location in the William Penn Plaza.
Picciotti and her husband, Andrew Hartzell, established Kyogre Kards about four years ago, and the business has built a large and loyal following through online sales and appearances at local trading card game shows. Read more here.

EASTON, Pa. – A Lehigh Valley event planner is expanding her business’ operations with a beautiful new space for hosting weddings, birthday parties, baby showers and other special occasions in Northampton County.
Kim Frailey, owner of Three Hearts Event Center in Lower Nazareth Township, is planning to open a second event venue, Three Hearts Venue & Brew House, at 1247 Simon Blvd. N108 in Easton.

The first Lehigh Valley location of Mister Car Wash, “committed to offering you a clean, dry, and shiny car every time” by using its proprietary Unity Chemistry system, opened on Tuesday, Aug. 18, in the Whitehall Square shopping center at 2160 MacArthur Road in Whitehall Township, assistant general manager Tijenna Gordon told 69 News.

Longtime jeweler levels up with larger location in Lehigh County
SOUTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. – A popular Lehigh Valley jewelry business is continuing to sparkle and shine with a bigger store.
Timothy Zaveri Jewelers, offering fine jewelry, custom designs and services such as jewelry engraving, polishing and repairs, in June held a soft opening of its new retail location at 4295 W. Tilghman St. in South Whitehall Township.
Previously, the jewelry store had operated for six years at 532 N. 19th St. in Allentown’s West End Theatre District.
The new South Whitehall location features more space and increased visibility along a heavily traveled roadway, according to Michael Paye, an apprentice jeweler with Timothy Zaveri. Read more here.

U. MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. – The nation’s largest franchise system of retail shipping, postal, print and business service centers is expanding its footprint in Lehigh County.
A new location of The UPS Store is expected to open in early or mid-fall at 7751 Glenlivet Drive West Suite 106 in the Fogelsville section of Upper Macungie Township, a company spokesperson told 69 News.

‘We are incredibly grateful’: Lehigh Valley diner announces closing date
SALISBURY TWP., Pa. – A destination for meatloaf, crab cakes, chicken croquettes and other homestyle favorites is bidding farewell in Lehigh County.
Susquehanna Street Diner, offering made-from-scratch dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner, will hold its last day of operation on Sunday, Aug. 23, at 1701 E. Susquehanna St. in Salisbury Township, according to an announcement on the business’ Facebook page.
“With a heavy heart, we want to let you know that we will be closing our restaurant on August 23rd at 9 p.m.,” the announcement reads.
“From the very beginning, your support, loyalty, and kindness have meant more to us than words can express. Every meal you shared with us, every visit, every recommendation, and every kind word helped make our restaurant what it was. We are incredibly grateful for all the memories we have created together. WYOMISSING, Pa. – A dining concept known for its Philly cheesesteaks and vibrant atmosphere is expanding its footprint in the region.
A new location of MaGerk’s Pub & Grill is expected to open in early September at 945 Hill Ave. in Wyomissing, a MaGerk’s spokesperson told 69 News.
The new restaurant will open sometime before the Philadelphia Eagles’ first regular season game on Sept. 13, and individuals can stay updated for an official opening announcement on the business’ Facebook and Instagram pages, the spokesperson said.

Family-run pizzeria opens 2nd location in Quakertown area
RICHLAND TWP., Pa. – A popular pizzeria is heating up operations with another location.
Fino’s Pizzeria, a family-owned and -operated pizzeria at 14 Main St. North in Trumbauersville, on Aug. 7 opened a second location a few miles east at the Quakertown Farmers Market, 201 Station Road, Richland Township.
The new location, near Entrance 21, fills a market space previously occupied by another pizza shop.
Over the years, Fino’s has continued to flourish in Trumbauersville, and owner Marco Caruso saw an opportunity to expand operations and serve more customers at the nearby Quakertown Farmers Market. Read more here.

Longstanding Vietnamese restaurant in Reading to close after 41 years
READING, Pa. – For 41 years, Lang Restaurant has served authentic Vietnamese cuisine to the city of Reading. On Aug. 30, though, it’s closing its doors for good.
“We’re very, very grateful for everyone that’s been supporting us throughout these 41 years,” said Erica Nguyen, part of the family that owns and runs Lang Restaurant.
Nguyen says her family’s restaurant was her grandfather, Lang Huynh’s, American dream.
“He came over to the states back in the late 70s, early 80s, and had a love for food. And with just what he had on his back came to this country and started his own restaurant,” Nguyen said. Read more.

Maple Grove suspends operations, leaving community members to wonder what’s next for the raceway
BRECKNOCK TWP., Pa. – The track at Maple Grove is expected to be quiet for a while.
“Maple Grove is one of our top tourist attractions in Berks County and has been for many years, so it’s super important, particularly to the southern part of Berks County,” said Heather Zimmerman with Experience Berks.
Maple Grove Raceway is home to a long history of racing and various community festivals.

L. TOWAMENSING TWP., Pa. – From family recipes to community festivals, pierogies have become a staple of Pennsylvania culture.
69 News Reporter Sydney Kay visited Lower Towamensing Township to get a look at how the tradition is being celebrated at the 3rd annual Pierogies and Pints Festival this weekend.
Guests can sample pierogis from vendors at the festival, which runs from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The event will feature live music from noon to 3 p.m., a beer garden, a Bobbing for Pierogis event, and an opportunity to vote for your favorite pierogi in the Traditional, Dessert, and Most Creative categories, Blue Mountain Resort says on its website.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Food vendors at the 174th Allentown Fair have been challenged to create new menu items to compete for the title of 2026 Best New Fair Food.
Participating concessionaires are inviting fairgoers to step outside their comfort zones and try something new to their menu. Each novel creation will be competing to win, and the fairgoers will be choosing their champion by scanning the QR code displayed at participating food stands.

‘The Curse of Camelback’ set to bring scares, thrills at Camelback Resort this September
TANNERSVILLE, Pa. – Camelback Resort says it is taking Halloween to new dramatic heights with “The Curse of Camelback” this September.
The Curse of Camelback runs Thursday, September 17, through Sunday, November 8, from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursdays and Sundays and 6 p.m. to midnight Fridays and Saturdays, according to a news release from Camelback Resort.
