Families in Erie got a head start on the new school year on Saturday with the Back-to-School Carnival at the Erie Land Lighthouse.
The event ran from noon until 5 p.m., offering free book bags and school supplies while supplies lasted.
Local university students move back to campus
Kids could also enjoy food, drinks and other activities throughout the afternoon.
Each child received 10 free tickets to use for games, with additional tickets available for purchase.
“To give back, we’re able to give a lot of our local students the backpacks that they need. We can give them the school supplies that they need to get ready for the year, which is really important on the east side of Erie,” said Averie Shauhnessy-Comfort, executive director of Presque Isle Light Station.
The carnival is meant to give families some extra support while making the final days before school fun for kids.
