Geisinger College of Health Sciences’ School of Medicine held its 18th annual White Coat Ceremony for the Class of 2030 on Aug. 7 in Scranton.
The Class of 2030’s 126 future doctors participated in a ceremony held in common with virtually every other medical school in the nation. White Coat ceremonies welcome new medical students into the profession by taking an oath acknowledging their responsibilities as future physicians and their obligations to future patients. The high point of the ceremony is when each future physician is cloaked with a white lab coat — the mantle of the medical profession. The Stanley J. Dudrick, MD and Alan G. Goldstein Endowed Fund provided the white coats.
“The White Coat Ceremony is an inspiring welcome to our new students at the School of Medicine. It marks the beginning of a sometimes difficult but always rewarding journey of turning eager learners into compassionate healers. They will serve the people of our communities and beyond,” Geisinger College’s president and medical school dean, Julie Byerley, MD, MPH, said. “It will be a great joy to watch this class grow into their roles as future physician leaders.”
Local residents receiving white coats during the seremony were: Jake DelGaudio, of Shavertown; Audrey DelGaudio, of Dallas; Santino Diana, of Dallas; Kayla Eckrote, of Nanticoke; Christina Kaspar, of Dallas; Marissa Kovaleski, of West Wyoming; Eric Lei, of Rockville; Rachael Sennett, of Wilkes-Barre; Katrina Stravinski, of West Pittston; and Benjamin Yelland, of Wilkes-Barre.
