A 27-year-old woman was killed and a 45-year-old man was hospitalized after they were shot inside a Pennsylvania home Saturday morning, Aug. 22, State Police announced.
Freemansburg Borough police were called to a home on the 20 block of Market Street at approximately 6:09 a.m. for a 911 call, according to PSP Troop M – Bethlehem.
Officers entered the home and found two people suffering from gunshot wounds, police said. They immediately began life-saving measures and took a 27-year-old Freemansburg woman into custody.
Investigators determined the woman had shot another 27-year-old Freemansburg woman and a 45-year-old Freemansburg man in the front living room of the residence, according to PSP.
Both victims were taken by EMS to St. Luke’s University Hospital-Bethlehem, where the 27-year-old woman was pronounced dead at 7:16 a.m., according to Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio. The man remained hospitalized as of Saturday afternoon.
Buglio ruled the woman’s death a homicide caused by a gunshot injury. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 24, at the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office and Forensic Center.
The woman has been positively identified, but authorities are withholding her identity at this time, the coroner said.
The identities of the hospitalized man and the woman taken into custody also have not been released.
Criminal charges are forthcoming, state police said. The investigation remains ongoing and is being led by the PSP Troop M Major Case Team.
The Northampton County District Attorney’s Office, Lehigh County Coroner’s Office, Freemansburg Borough Police Department, and several other law enforcement units are assisting with the investigation.
