The Wyomissing Public Library, 9 Reading Blvd., will turn back the clock to the Prohibition era Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m. with “Roaring Stacks: A Speakeasy Soirée at the Library,” a fundraiser to benefit library programs and services. The program includes music, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction, a darts challenge with Mark Twain and more. Tickets are $100 per person, with attendance limited to 160 guests. Guests are encouraged to dress in 1920s-inspired attire.

Women’s Equality Day

The League of Women Voters and the Wyomissing Public Library present a program commemorating Women’s Equality Day on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the library, 9 Reading Blvd. The occasion marks the anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the constitutional right to vote. Hallie Vaughan will portray suffragist leader Alice Paul to tell the struggle of the women who fought and died for the right to vote.

The League of Women Voters will be on hand to answer questions about voter registration, checking your registration and using Vote411.org to get information about the candidates.

Oley tour

The Berks County Genealogical Society is hosting a Historical Tour of Oley led by historian Laurel Miller on Sept. 12. The day will include visits to the DeTurk House, Hill Church, Mountain Mary’s House, the Keim Homestead and other historic sites throughout the Oley Valley. Pet loss support group

A Christian pet loss support group will be held at St. John’s Reformed Church, 4001 Penn Ave., Sinking Spring, Sept. 7 at 6:45 p.m. Sessions are led by Dr. Becky Frank, associate veterinarian with Lap of Love Veterinary Hospice.

Chicken fundraiser

A takeout chicken dinner fundraiser will be held Saturday starting at 10 a.m. at the Lincoln Fire Company, 38 S. Market St., Ephrata. The food will be supplied by Big John Nolt. Dinners include baked beans, cheesy potatoes and a dessert. Cost is $14 per meal. The sale ends when meals are sold out.

Zion’s Lutheran Church, 354 Zions Church Road, Perry Township, will hold a drive-thru preordered food sale Oct. 10 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Orders and payment are due Oct 4. Vocalist Deanna Reuben and pianist Marty Mellinger will perform a concert of classical, jazz and standards Sept. 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Alvernia University’s Francis Hall theater to benefit Alvernia’s Hope Fund for students in need of temporary emergency financial assistance. The concert also features Bennie Sims on bass, Paul Colombo on guitar and Bill Tesar on drums. Special guest vocalist will be Alvernia President Dr. Glynis Fitzgerald.

Pa. Dutch classes

The Berks History Center in Reading is offering Pennsylvania Dutch classes starting Sept. 21. Beginner, intermediate and advanced courses are available.
