PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed Navy running back/fullback Alex Tecza, the team announced on Monday.
Tecza, who was the high school and college teammate of Steelers seventh-round draft pick Eli Heidenreich at Mt. Lebanon and Navy, was with the Steelers for a tryout at rookie minicamp this spring, but was not signed to a contract.
Since then, Tecza had returned to Navy, where he had been serving as a graduate assistant for the football team this summer, while waiting for his military assignment.
The 6-foot, 199-pound Tecza rushed for 2,228 yards on 408 carries (5.5 average) and 23 touchdowns in his three years at Navy. He also caught 41 passes for 451 yards(11.0 average) and three touchdowns.

In 2025, Tecza rushed for 902 yards on 158 carries (5.7 average) and a career-high 10 touchdowns. Three of his 13-career touchdown runs were from 60 yards or more.
Tecza displayed impressive burst at his Navy pro day, running a 4.58 40-yard dash. He is projected to be a running back or fullback in the NFL.
The Steelers drafted fullback Riley Nowakowski in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, and have used him only sparingly throughout training camp and the preseason, so the team’s need for Tecza is not immediately clear.
In addition to the signing of Tecza on Monday, the Steelers signed rookie cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau, and released veteran safety Israel Mukuamu. The team also activated cornerback Jalen Ramsey from the physically unable to perform list.
