A 37-year-old Scranton man faces charges after detectives said he viewed child sexual abuse material for nearly a decade.

James Michael Osborne told investigators he exchanged nude photographs online with approximately 50 females under the age of 15, throughout the past eight years, according to a criminal complaint. He also admitted sharing child sexual abuse material with others on Telegram, a social media platform, police said.

The investigation began when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a cyber tip from Dropbox Inc. that a user with the email address drkshadowwolf@gmail.com uploaded and disseminated files depicting apparent child sexual abuse material to their servers, according to the criminal complaint.

Court records listed a current address of 522 Pleasant Ave. for Osborne, investigators said.

Osborne’s name, date of birth, phone number and Social Security number also matched the user-generated information on the reported Google and Dropbox accounts, according to the criminal complaint.

After the report was forwarded to the Lackawanna County district attorney’s office, county detectives confirmed four files depicted children, under the age of 18, engaged in prohibited sexual acts, police said.

Then, members of the Lackawanna and Luzerne counties district attorneys’ offices executed a search warrant Aug. 20 at 522 Pleasant Ave., detectives said.

Once inside the residence, investigators spoke with Melissa and Scott Shea,  who said they overheard Osborne speaking with a 13-year-old girl on the gaming platform Fortnight, according to the criminal complaint. They added Osborne purchased items for the juvenile on the video game, and that they expressed their concerns about it to him, police said.

Osborne confirmed the Dropbox account and email address belonged to him, but initially denied seeing files of sexual abuse material, before later admitting doing so as recently as the day before, investigators said.

Detectives seized Osborne’s mobile devices and a PlayStation console for further examination, according to the criminal complaint.

Police charged Osborne with four counts of possession of child sexual abuse material and one count of criminal use of a communication facility.

As of Monday, Osborne remained in Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 31 at 9:45 a.m.
