SCRANTON, Pa. — The United States of America isn’t the only thing milestone birthday worth marking this summer.
La Festa Italiana will celebrate 50 years since its founding when it returns this Labor Day weekend in downtown Scranton.
Founded in 1976 by then-Lackawanna County Commissioner Robert W. Pettinato, the festival annually draws thousands to Courthouse Square to gulp down porketta and cannoli while celebrating the city’s Italian heritage. This year will also feature a new culture tent with presentations on topics like food, music and history.
