READING, Pa. – We know and love them as the Reading Fightin Phils. But tomorrow, they’re rebranding for one day only to the Reading Iced Coffees.
Ever since that announcement, their merch has been flying off the shelves.
“It’s been kind of one of those things that’s just been a constant swell, a constant reorder,” said Ryan Springborn, the Executive Director of Graphic Arts and Merchandise at the Reading Fightin Phils.
Every year, the Reading Fightin Phils rebrand to a breakfast theme for their annual morning game. But this year’s theme has been their biggest one yet.
“We thought the bat slam, the straw slam would be kind of fun,” said Springborn.
Tuesday, the Fightin Phils will be the Reading Iced Coffees. They announced their identity back in February, and set a new record for sales in a single day.
“We actually had basically a three-day weekend that just was completely viral for us. It was amazing to see. Kind of was all over, all over Twitter, social media kind of picked it up,” said Springborn.
The Fightins even earned the title of ESPN’s “Minor League Baseball Promotion of the Week.”
“We took in an insane amount of orders over that weekend. So yeah, that was great,” said Springborn.
The director says he never expected this level of popularity.
“For us to have that happen and for our team and, you know, everybody that put the hard work into it, it’s awesome,” said Springborn.
The first 2,000 adults at the game will get a free iced coffees hat. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
