FED AS THEY WAITED FOR FOOD. GIANT EAGLE CUSTOMERS SPENT PART OF TODAY CASHING IN. THEY STOOD IN LONG LINES TO EXCHANGE PENNIES FOR GIFT CARDS. GIANT EAGLE OFFERED TO BUY THE PENNIES AND EXCHANGED THE AMOUNT FOR DOUBLE THE VALUE, AND A GIANT EAGLE GIFT CARD. NOW CUSTOMERS PACKED UP THEIR PENNIES AND THEY CASHED IN. I’VE HAD THEM SITTING AROUND FOR A LONG TIME, SO IT WAS TIME TO GET RID OF THEM. AND THIS IS THE BEST TIME TO DO IT. THERE’S A LOT, AND I THINK PEOPLE JUST THROW THEM IN THE DRAWER, AND THIS IS A WAY TO HOUSE CLEAN. GIANT EAGLE OFFERED THE PROMOTION TO ENSURE THE CHAIN HAS ENOUGH PENNIES TO MAKE TRANSACTIONS. THE U.S. TREASURY DEPARTMENT IS BEGINNING TO PHASE OUT THE PENNY, AND THE FEDERAL RESERVE HAS STARTED TO LIMIT THE AMOUNT OF PENNIES IT DELIVERS. AND JUST LOOK AT THE LINE AT THE GIANT EAGLE ON WEST MIFFLIN EARLIER TODAY. IT WENT ALL THE WAY AROUND THE STORE. SOME CUSTOMERS TOLD US THEY WAITED FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR TO EXCHANGE THEIR PENNIES. GIANT EAGLE WEIGHED THE COIN SO CUSTOMERS DIDN’T HAVE TO ROLL THEM. AND WE JUST GOT WORD THAT MORE THAN 100 MILLION PENNIES WERE COLLECTED AT 200 GIANT EAGLE LOCATIONS AND MORE THAN $2
