DUNMORE, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — Drivers on Interstate 81 could encounter delays this week as separate projects bring lane restrictions, closures and rolling slowdowns to portions of the highway in Luzerne and Lackawanna counties.
PennDOT said the first restrictions will begin Wednesday morning in Lackawanna County for bridge safety inspections.
Wednesday, August 26: I-81 northbound will have lane restrictions and closures from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. between Fleetville/Tompkinsville at Exit 202 and Glenwood/Lenoxville at Exit 206.
Thursday, August 27: Southbound restrictions and closures are scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. along the same stretch, between Exit 206 and Exit 202.
A separate project will affect I-81 overnight in Luzerne County.
PennDOT said crews will install an overhead fiber optic cable between the Avoca/Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport exit and Moosic.
The work will require lane restrictions and rolling slowdowns in both directions between Exit 178 and Exit 180 from midnight to 1 a.m. Thursday, August 27.
The fiber optic work is weather dependent.
Motorists traveling through either work area should be prepared for delays and changing traffic patterns.
