READING, Pa. – Did anybody order a couple thousand iced coffees for Reading?
“I love iced coffee, and a lot of people who said they knew me said to come all the way from Oregon to Pennsylvania for this game,” said Allison Weseman from Portland, Oregon.
What goes better with morning baseball in late August than iced coffee?
“Just morning baseball seems like a good idea. The iced coffees rebrand is really cute. A good way to spend a day,” said Matt Owens of Ridley Park.
With a green that might remind you of a certain coffee seller, the Fightin Phil’s always about a pitch and catch away from their latest pop-culture inspired identity crisis brewed into the Iced Coffees.
“I love it I think it’s the most fun thing in baseball. And I think more people need to embrace theme nights,” said Weseman.
The Iced Coffee promotion sparked national interest being featured on ESPN and even international interest from down under.
“It’s great to be here in Reading seeing the Fightin Phils play as the Iced Coffees today. It’s a beautiful summers day we’re just here visiting family,” said Alex Matthews from Australia.
Don’t they have iced coffee in Australia?
“Iced Coffee is not big in Australia, mostly they drink flat whites… which is a smaller version of a latte especially in the summer I’m always drinking iced coffee when I come back ‘cause I can’t get it in Australia,” said Alyssa Owens of Australia.
Apparently in addition to the chilled breakfast brew, the Aussies are lacking in another Baseballtown staple too.
“They don’t have soft pretzels in Australia, so that’s the first thing I got,” said Owens.
It almost seems like Reading woke up the world with their morning iced coffee order.
“So, I have to pick up an iced coffee hat and some pins for my friends because I love iced coffee,” Weseman said. “What we really love about the baseball is how the whole family gets out from the little ones to the grown-ups too.”
