Fall festival: The Newton Recreation Center will hold its annual Fall Festival on Sept. 19, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free parking. Visitors are invited to explore the “250 Faces” exhibit and time capsule, both on display in the history room/free library. Also includes local vendors, basket raffles, live music, food trucks and kids’ zone. The festival will be held rain or shine.

Flea market: Parishioners of St. John’s Cathedral will hold a flea market Sept. 18-19, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the church center, 701 Hill St. The flea market will feature many unique items including collectibles, jewelry, kitchenware, pictures, home décor, seasonal items, flatware, pots, mugs, furniture and more. The kitchen will be open and will be serving St. John’s homemade fried pierogies and mac and cheese by the pint or by the quart on Friday. A takeout-only chicken cordon bleu dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $15 for dinner and dessert.
Pork chop dinner: St. Mary’s Orthodox Greek Catholic Church, 522 Main St., Dickson City, will hold a pork chop dinner Sept. 17, 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; $15 per dinner. Dinner includes a grilled smoked pork chop with pineapple, mashed potatoes, vegetable, roll and butter, and dessert. Takeout only. To order, call 570-309-5990 by Sept. 14.

Open house: Patrons can “test drive” seats available for season tickets to the upcoming 2026-27 Broadway in Scranton season, Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple, 420 N. Washington Ave., Scranton. Attendees can sit in various locations throughout the theater to find the seat that fits them before purchasing their season ticket. Ticket prices for the six-show subscription are $409, $479 and $539.

Estate planning seminar: The Scranton Area Community Foundation’s Women in Philanthropy initiative will host “Protecting Your Future, Preserving Your Legacy,” a free educational seminar designed to help women feel more informed and confident about planning for the future, Sept. 1, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Scranton Area Community Foundation, 612 Jefferson Ave. Estate planning attorney Jane Carlonas and financial adviser Ellen Burkey will discuss topics including wills, powers of attorney, living wills, beneficiary designations, organizing important financial and legal information, protecting the well-being of loved ones, preparing for future life decisions, and ways charitable giving can become part of a person’s legacy when it reflects their personal values.
