Diamonte Peair Sims, 24, of Reading, was taken into custody after Berks County Drug Task Force detectives served a search warrant at 617 Brookline Plaza around 9 a.m. Friday as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation, according to the Berks County District Attorney’s Office.
Investigators had identified Sims as a suspect in the trafficking of controlled substances from the residence, the DA’s office said. The warrant was authorized a day earlier by Magisterial District Judge Priscilla Campos.
During the search, detectives seized:
Packaged powder cocaine and crack cocaine.Unidentified pills believed to be controlled substances.Packaging materials and other items commonly associated with drug distribution.Two firearms.
The drugs have an estimated street value of $9,800, according to the release.
Detectives later determined Sims is legally prohibited from possessing firearms because of a prior qualifying conviction, authorities said.
One of the guns, a 9mm Taurus pistol, had previously been reported stolen in Reading, according to the DA’s office.
Sims was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, persons not to possess firearms, and receiving stolen property.
He was taken to the Berks County Sheriff’s Central Processing Center for processing and was awaiting preliminary arraignment when the release was issued.
