WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. – A man shot his girlfriend, called 911, then shot and killed himself in Whitehall Township, the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release.
Whitehall Township Police received a 911 call Tuesday around 10:20 p.m. about a shooting that occurred in an apartment at the 1220 block of Pericles Place, the DA’s office said.
“I looked outside and there were quite a few ambulances around,” said one neighbor.
At this time, the investigation indicates that a 34-year-old man shot his girlfriend two times, according to the DA’s office. She received life-saving measures at the scene from first responders and was then brought to a local hospital, according to the news release.
The DA’s office said the 27-year-old woman remains hospitalized with critical injuries.

The man, whose name has not yet been released by the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office, died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, the DA’s office said.
According to the DA’s office, the man shot himself after calling 911 and admitting that he shot his girlfriend.
An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
The DA’s office said no one else was inside the home at the time of the shootings. There is no indication that any other assailant is involved in this incident, authorities said.

The shooting remains under investigation by the Whitehall Township Police Department and the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office Homicide Task Force.
The shooting happened in a neighborhood that’s typically quiet according to people who live there.
We spoke with neighbor Tiffany Ellis, who told us she didn’t hear the shots being fired, but said she’s now concerned and wants answers.
“Like, ‘Oh my God, what happened? Was it a shooting outside? Was it in the apartment?’ We’ve been here for five years and nothing like this has ever happened before. It’s a nice neighborhood, quiet,” Ellis said.
