WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. – Authorities say they took a person into protective custody after they barricaded themselves in a room with weapons in Whitehall Township Wednesday afternoon.
Township police officers responded to the 2000 block of Columbia Avenue to help Lehigh County Crisis Intervention Services with an involuntary commitment for psychiatric placement warrant, the Whitehall Township Police Department said in a news release.
Police called the Lehigh County Emergency Response Team into help after multiple attempts to have the person voluntarily enter treatment, police said.
After several hours of talking with the Lehigh County Crisis Negotiation Team, it was determined that the person would not voluntarily comply with the warrant and had threatened to harm others, according to township police.
Police said ERT conducted a successful operation inside the home, and the person was taken into protective custody.
They were then brought for the psychiatric placement warrant to a local hospital, township police said.
