SCHNECKSVILLE, Pa. — Lehigh Valley Zoo is welcoming a new baby, and they are looking for name suggestions!
Zoo officials say on Monday, Moira, the zoo’s six-year-old common eland, gave birth to a healthy female calf.
Her care team came up with four names to choose from: Dolly, Twyla, Rainbow, and Rosebud.

This is Moira’s second calf born at the zoo, according to officials. Her last calf, David, was born in January 2025.
Moira and her newborn have been staying in a behind-the-scenes space, allowing the calf to nurse, let them bond, and give the calf time to master her mobility skills before joining the herd, according to zoo officials.
When the calf was 1-day old, veterinary staff did a neonate examination to determine sex, check her overall health, get a weight, and draw blood for testing. The yet-to-be-named calf weighed about 75 pounds, according to the zoo’s Facebook.
The calf was let out with the herd Thursday morning, and if all goes well, mom and baby will stay on exhibit with them, the zoo said.
