PITTSBURGH — The inbound (northbound) Liberty Tunnel in Pittsburgh will close to traffic overnight starting Thursday.
The closure is scheduled from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday, so Mosites Construction Co. can work on replacing the tunnel’s roof, weather permitting.

Take Route 51 (Saw Mill Run Boulevard) northboundTake the left exit to I-376 West/US 19 South toward Carnegie/Airport/West EndTake Exit 69A toward US 19 South/Banksville RoadKeep left (towards South Truck 19/51) and loop back to I-376 eastbound toward Fort Pitt TunnelFollow eastbound I-376 through Fort Pitt Tunnel and across the Fort Pitt BridgeFor access to I-279 destinations follow I-279 signage, all other destinations take exit toward I-376 East/MonroevilleTake the left-hand exit to Grant Street (Exit 71A)Turn right onto the Boulevard of the AlliesEnd detour
The $3.47 million Liberty Tunnel Portal roof replacement project is scheduled for completion later this year.
Overnight closures and detours will happen on both sides of the Liberty Tunnel, though not both sides at once.
