‘Puppy yoga’ helps to raise money for rescue, find forever homes | Reading Area

WYOMISSING, Pa. – Thursday’s stormy weather didn’t stop people in Wyomissing from practicing their downward dog.

“It’s the cutest thing ever,” said Laura Davaras, an attendee. 

The nonprofit dog rescue PA PitStop partnered with OTherapYoga to host puppy yoga.

Heather Hassenplug of PA PitStop says all the money raised supports animals in need.

“It’s a donation to the rescue to basically do yoga with the puppies,” she said.

Twenty puppies ran around the yoga mats, stretching and snuggling with guests.    

“They absolutely love, you know, just being around people,” said Hassenplug. 

Not only do the people get some good out of it; the puppies get good out of it, too.

“I’s so good for their development at such a young age to be around all different people instead of just us in our home,” Hassenplug said. 

Davaras says it’s hard to focus on poses when puppies are running around, but it’s still the best yoga class she’s ever taken.

“I would sign up every week if I could… I mean, it’s puppy yoga,” Davaras said. 

All twenty puppies are girls, and all are up for adoption through The Riley Rescue.

“We are always in need of adopters and foster families to be able to help, even if it’s for a short period of time,” Hassenplug said. 

She says she hopes events like these can help some of these puppies find their forever homes.

“At the end of the day, we just want all of the puppies adopted,” Hassenplug said.
