Pittsburgh woman says intruder returned days after break-in at Greenfield home
PITTSBURGH —
A Pittsburgh woman says a man who broke into her home earlier this week returned to her porch days later, but fled after being caught on camera and hearing an alarm.
Madalyn Dermis said she and her roommate left their Greenfield home after the initial break-in on Wednesday, during which she chased the man away with a curtain rod. While they were away, they installed a security camera and an alarm system. On their first night back, Dermis said the camera captured the same man returning.
“When he looked at the camera, I could tell it was the same man,” Dermis said.
The video shows the man, wearing nearly the same clothes as before, standing on Dermis’ front porch, just feet from the door she said he had broken through days earlier. This time, when he noticed the camera and heard the alarm, he ran off on his own.

Dermis said she is unsure why the man keeps coming back.
“I’ve thought about, like, why this particular house? Has he seen us before? Is this like a situation of he’s seen us, but we haven’t seen him? It is very unnerving,” she said.
Despite her concerns, Dermis said she is not leaving her home again. Instead, she and her roommate are adding more cameras and reinforcing their doors.
“I’m a little worried. It is nerve-wracking because I have to live here. I have to go to work. I can’t just stay at home. I can’t hide from it. I have to be here. I live here,” she said. “Obviously, I didn’t hit him hard enough. It’s OK. I’m ready this time. I’ve upgraded.”
Dermis said she filed another report with Pittsburgh police and showed them the video, but so far, no one has been charged.
