Gun violence left five people hospitalized in separate incidents from Friday night through Sunday morning across Philadelphia, authorities said.
A 21-year-old woman was shot in the chest and grazed in the neck when shots were fired just before 3:45 a.m. Sunday on the 800 block of Reno Place in North Philadelphia, according to police.
Investigators said the victim reported that a “Good Samaritan” took her and a friend to Pennsylvania Hospital, where she was stabilized before being taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.
Law enforcement officials found four fired cartridge casings at the scene and reported that the bullets had struck three cars and two homes. There was no word on a possible motive.
Early Saturday, at around 3 a.m., someone shot a 45-year-old man in his right leg at 40th and Poplar streets in West Philadelphia, the PPD stated. Officers took him to Penn Presbyterian, where he was being treated for nonlife-threatening injuries.
Two men were wounded when gunfire erupted just before 11:45 p.m. Friday on the 2700 block of W. Westmoreland Street in the Tioga section of North Philadelphia, authorities said.
Police said one of the victims told them that he and another man drove to the block after receiving a phone call about a fight. When they arrived, someone began shooting, according to his account.
That victim, a 42-year-old man, fled the area on foot and later walked into Temple University Hospital, law enforcement said. The other man, age 40, drove away in an Audi that was later involved in a crash at Broad and Cayuga streets, according to investigators.
The PPD said SEPTA Transit Police officers responded and took him to Temple hospital; he was shot multiple times but was expected to survive, officials added.
A 22-year-old man arrived at Temple hospital shortly after he was shot at around 11:20 p.m. Friday on the 2400 block of N. Carlisle Street in North Philadelphia, police said. Law enforcement shared little else about the incident.
No arrests were reported in the immediate aftermath of the weekend’s violence. Anyone with information is asked to call or text the PPD tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477).
Through Aug. 29, 473 people had been shot in Philadelphia, down 31% compared to the same date last year, according to police data.
