A 49-year-old Fort Erie man is dead and a child is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a motorcycle crashed into an SUV in Port Colborne on Saturday.

The collision happened around 5 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Highway 3 near Wilhelm Road, according to a Sunday Ontario Provincial Police release.

Police say the motorcycle collided with the rear of an SUV, ejecting both the motorcycle’s driver and passenger.

The driver, a 49-year-old man from Fort Erie, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

The passenger, identified by police as a child, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A section of Highway 3 was closed for several hours while officers investigated. The road has since reopened.

“Burlington OPP thanks bystanders who stopped to provide assistance at the time of the collision,” the release states.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has video footage is asked to contact the OPP.
