WESTMORELAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — Authorities in Pennsylvania are trying to find the person responsible for shooting and killing a bald eagle.
The young bald eagle was found along the Westmoreland Heritage Trail near the Beaver Run Reservoir in Salem Township, Westmoreland County, on Tuesday, Aug. 25, according to a Monday social media post by the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
The bird was still alive when a state game warden was called to the area, but it died before it could be taken to a rehabilitator, the post states.
A pellet that looked to have been shot from an air rifle was found stuck in the eagle’s wing. The PGC said it was able to determine the eagle was likely shot a week prior due to the infection of the wound.
