Gas prices are impacting more than just drivers. Erie News Now is looking at how the rising cost of fuel is affecting local boaters, renters, and businesses here in Erie.
The price of gas is something local boaters are keeping a close eye on this season.
At Port Erie, regular unleaded gasoline has climbed from about $4.32 a gallon to around $5 — adding to the cost of getting out on the water.
And compared to last year, the increase is even more noticeable.
Average gas prices were around $3.09 a gallon in 2025. Today, they’re closer to $5.
That means boaters are paying more to fill up — and that higher cost is also being felt by local businesses that rely on the summer boating season.
But fuel costs aren’t the only challenge facing Port Erie this season.
We spoke with owner Rob Orelski, who told us about another issue impacting the business.
For renters, the cost of gas is passed directly on to them.
And while the other rental costs have stayed the same, fuel is the one expense that has gone up this season.
