One of the many events happening throughout Erie in September is Welcoming Week, organized by the City of Erie.
From September 10 through September 19, a variety of events will take place across the city highlighting different customs, traditions and heritages represented in the Erie community.
Events will include Coffee and Conversations, free admission to the Erie Art Museum, ethnic market tours, civic engagement lectures and Fiesta on the Square.
The week will wrap up with the New American Jamboree in Perry Square.
Organizers said Erie is a melting pot of cultures, and Welcoming Week is an opportunity to showcase that diversity while bringing people together.
New American Jamboree Organizer Kalif Hassan said events like these help people learn more about one another, “We do events like this so we can show people our background and our culture and people can come to know about us and we can get to know each other.”
Wuji Ahmad, the City of Erie’s New American Affairs Coordinator, said organizers are working with community partners to make sure the week offers meaningful opportunities for people to connect, “Get together with all the community partners that are participating in this and see if there’s anything we really need to talk about, anything we need to expand on and stuff.”
Welcoming Week begins September 10 and runs through September 19, ending with the New American Jamboree in Perry Square.
