Low humidity and high winds expected Friday in the Lehigh Valley and all of eastern Pennsylvania could lead to rapid fire spread, the National Weather Service warned.

Humidity values between 30% and 40% and winds with gusts between 20 and 30 mph, along with drying of fine fuels, could support “rapid spread” of any fires that ignite, according to the National Weather Service. Any fires that spread would be difficult to control.

Humidity will increase later in the day and winds will decrease toward the night, the weather service said

Forecasters said outdoor burning is strongly discouraged. Residents should make sure to properly extinguish or dispose of potential ignition sources such as smoking materials or cigarette butts.
