The Erie Regional Chamber is making a donation to support a new memorial in remembrance for the 25th anniversary of 9/11.
The $500 donation is helping fund the addition of the “Global War on Terrorism Memorial” at Erie County Veterans Memorial Park.

The presentation is part of the chamber’s annual Spirit of Erie celebration, which highlights people and organizations making an impact across the region.
Organizers said the donation recognizes the service and sacrifice of veterans while helping preserve their stories and legacy for future generations.
“We want to honor the seven members of Erie County who lost their lives and gave their all during the war on terrorism, we also want to honor those who served during the war on terrorism, and we also want to educate,” said Joe Benacci, director of Erie County Veterans Services.
A goal of $300,000 has been set for the memorial. Organizers hope to reach that and break ground by next May.
