A 24-year-old Scranton woman faces charges after kicking and spitting on officers in the city Sunday afternoon, police said.

Officers dispatched to 540 N. Cameron Ave. around 12:25 p.m. for the report of a domestic disturbance between a male and female encountered Kenneth Miller — who had scuff and dirt marks on his clothing and red scratch marks on his neck — outside in the yard, according to a criminal complaint.

Miller told officers that his girlfriend, Kierra Smith, attacked him and threw a brick through the window of his truck.

Miller— who had a bloody lip — told officers that Smith, who was intoxicated, struck him in the face multiple times, according to the criminal complaint.

Police spotted Smith inside the home holding an infant with another child nearby, police said.

When Smith stepped outside the residence, officers detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from her, according to the criminal complaint.

Smith told officers she had been fighting with Miller since the night before and had locked him out.

She called 911 when Miller attempted to kick the door down. She admitted to losing control because of how mad she was at him, officers said.

As police were escorting Smith to a patrol vehicle, she kicked Patrolman Nicholas Ivanoff and attempted to get away before continuing to kick Ivanoff and Patrolman Roberto Martinez, while yelling at them, according to the criminal complaint.

Smith also threatened emergency medical services workers, stating she would punch them in the face if they touched her, police said.

Smith resisted as officers attempted to load her into a patrol vehicle and kicked Patrolman Donald Hofsommer, according to the criminal complaint.

Additionally, she spit in Ivanoff’s face as several officers placed her in a prisoner transport van, police said.

Police charged Smith, 540 N. Cameron Ave., with aggravated assault, assault of a police officer, resisting arrest, simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment. Smith was jailed on $10,000 bail Sunday but has since been released, according to court paperwork.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 11 at 10:30 a.m.
