The Double “R” Twirlettes were selected to represent Pennsylvania in the Salute to Independence Parade to celebrate America’s 250th birthday. The parade was set to take place on July 3 in Philadelphia. There were parade participants from 11 different countries, two U.S. territories and all 50 states scheduled to march in the exact footsteps of the country’s founding fathers.
However, the parade was canceled due to the extreme heat. After preparing and planning for over a year, the group was disappointed.
But the Twirlettes were given another opportunity to perform in the nation’s birthplace. One week later, the group was invited to perform at the Museum of the American Revolution during its America 250 festivities. Before the Twirlettes returned home, they ran up the “Rocky steps” at the Philadelphia Museum of Art to celebrate their dedication, perseverance and performance in commemorating America 250.
