Dave Kline’s Aug. 26 Berks Country column (“Getting good news from the mountain”) outlined Corrie Crupie-Zana’s plan to build a stage and hold concerts by the tower on Mount Penn. I think it’s a great idea.
While visiting Stockbridge, Mass., I heard about a concert that evening at a place nearby called Tanglewood. The outdoor setting on the lawn with thousands of people was something I wasn’t expecting. It was a memorable night, and we returned the following year.
Tanglewood is known as “Where the Music Goes in the Summer.” The Boston Pops and Boston Symphony play there on summer nights along with the likes of John Nash, our entertainer that first night.
We could have a “Tanglewood at the Tower.” I think the setting would be perfect, and people would be able to enjoy all the mountain and Skyline Drive have to offer. Maybe a visit to the Pagoda after the concert for a coffee or cocktail. I can see the trail of taillights winding down Duryea Drive. If you build it, they will come.
I definitely would build the stage big enough to accommodate our own Reading Symphony. Wouldn’t it be wonderful?
