READING, Pa. – The Berks County Commissioners voted Thursday to adopt a resolution to set the 2027 dates for the Commissioners’ town hall meetings.
The town halls will be held:
Wednesday, January 20 at Schuylkill Valley Community Library, Leesport
Tuesday, February 9 at Fleetwood Area Public Library, Fleetwood
Tuesday, March 2 at Brandywine Community Library, Topton
Wednesday, April 21 at Womelsdorf Community Library, Womelsdorf
Tuesday, May 4 at Hamburg Public Library, Hamburg
Tuesday, September 14 at Sinking Spring Public Library, Sinking Spring
Wednesday, October 6 at West Lawn-Wyomissing Hills Library, West Lawn
Tuesday, November 9 at the Village Library of Morgantown, Morgantown
The Town Halls begin at 6:30 p.m. and give residents of communities the opportunity to discuss local issues with the commissioners.
No town halls are held in June, July, August, and December.
In other business, the commissioners adopted a resolution to authorize the deputy/outreach services coordinator for the Berks County Public Libraries to execute the Berks County Intermediate Unit Head Start Library visit agreement between the libraries and participating local preschools.
The library system supplies a community engagement specialist to provide story times and information about library services to children who are part of early literacy programs.
During public comment, the commissioners heard from three residents asking the county to stop its cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The comments against ICE have recently become common during the public comment portion of the Thursday meetings, and the commissioners do not address the comments.
Crystal Kowalski, Wyomissing, said it is time for the people to understand what is happening in every detention facility.
“When we choose to partner (with the federal government) – which we are currently doing- we are sending people off to institutional brutality,” Kowalski said.
“This just does not square with me for who I know all of you to be, and it has not squared with me for a while, and I’m asking you to change your minds,” she added.
