SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — Hundreds of applicants visited the PA Career Link’s headquarters in Scranton to meet potential employers face to face.
It’s the organization’s annual job fair, and officials say there’s something for everyone, no matter the field.
“We have healthcare, we have manufacturing, warehouse, CDL drivers, just about every industry,” said PA Career Link business service representative Matthew Giombetti. “We have home health care. We had two bankers here today. So yeah, every industry here is represented.”
Representatives were able to meet with potential employees face to face, explain their business, and see if candidates were a good fit.
In an age of virtual job hunting and applying, companies say they relish the opportunity to meet candidates in person.
“We value face to face interactions,” said Scott Abdo, who manned a table outside to represent Fastenal’s Pittston distribution center. “And we also can put the name to the face at the bottom line, but we also invite them and show them what the positions look like, what Fastenal is all about, and basically answer a lot of questions for them at the same time. So those are the areas we like to focus on face to face at the events just like this.”
PA Career Link’s purpose is to get Pennsylvanians employed, offering services like resume and interviewing workshops, recouping on the job training costs, and more, but to physically network with prospective jobs is something the organization sees as invaluable.
“Networking is one of the strongest things you can do in today’s job economy,” continued Giombetti. “So having the opportunity to come down and have that personal connection where we can help connect you with that employer is incredibly valuable.”
While Thursday’s job fair has come and gone, PA Career Link hosts events, workshops, and services all year round.
