Meadow party: The Delaware Highlands Conservancy will host a free community Meadow Party, Sept. 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Van Scott Nature Reserve, 571 Perkins Pond Road, Beach Lake. The day will include a live animal presentation, a monarch butterfly program, guided trail walks, a bounce house, wildlife and conservation themed relay games, yoga and water ice available for purchase. Fall at the Furnaces: The first two events of Fall at the Furnaces at the Scranton Iron Furnaces, 159 Cedar Ave., Scranton, will take place this month. The first, “Good Things Are Happening! Fest,” will be Sept. 12 at noon. A day of music, art, food, drink and vendors. Recovery walk: The annual Recovery Walk will take place Sept. 13 at the Schimelfenig Pavilion in Nay Aug Park, located near the Olive Street entrance at 500 Arthur Ave., Scranton. Registration begins at 11 a.m., followed by the Recovery Walk at noon, and a Celebration of Recovery immediately afterward. The celebration will feature free food, free T-shirts, music, and a variety of family-friendly activities, including a bounce house, a face painter, a balloon artist and a stilt walker. Dozens of exhibitors will be on hand to offer information and support. In addition, free doses of the lifesaving overdose-reversal drug Narcan will be available, along with training on how to use it. The event, which coincides with National Recovery Month, is free and open to the public. The event is being organized by the Lackawanna Recovery Coalition, the Recovery Bank and the Lackawanna-Susquehanna Office of Drug and Alcohol Programs.
Workshops: Johnson College is accepting registrations for its Women at the Workbench: Electrical and Carpentry Workshops, hands-on, one-day experiences designed for individuals looking to build confidence and develop practical skills in a welcoming and supportive environment. The electrical workshop will take place Sept. 12, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., while the carpentry workshop will occur Sept. 26, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Both workshops will be held at the college’s Scranton campus. Concert: A special preview of the upcoming Scranton Fringe Festival will take place Friday, 7 to 9 p.m., at Christopher A. Doherty Park, Linden Street and Wyoming Avenue, as part of Pocket Park Live. People can sample a few of the productions featured in Scranton Fringe Festival, taking place Oct. 1-10. Guests will also have a chance to meet some of the artists.
