HELLERTOWN, Pa. – A new family-run restaurant will soon serve breakfast, lunch and dinner at the site of a recently closed sports bar in Northampton County.
Gigi & Alex Restaurant, a full-service restaurant offering freshly prepared American cuisine, will hold soft opening events from 4 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, and from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 605 Main St. in Hellertown, according to an online announcement.
The restaurant’s grand opening will be held from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 12, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for 9 a.m.
The restaurant, with seating for around 100 guests, will occupy an updated space that was previously home to Wings on Main Sports Bar & Grille, which closed on June 28.
“We are very excited,” owner and chef Alejandro Lopez told 69 News.
“The community is also excited. People have been stopping in to ask when we’re opening.”
Gigi & Alex, named after Lopez’s daughter and son, will offer a wide array of made-to-order dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily.
The menu will feature breakfast specialties such as banana walnut pancakes, blueberry pancakes, chicken and waffles, churro Belgian waffles, Nutella French toast, stuffed cheesecake French toast and a wide array of egg platters and sandwiches.
Guests will be able to breakfast all day, with other highlights including handhelds such as a bacon croissant, chorizo burrito and Gigi & Alex breakfast sandwich (freshly baked brioche roll, smashed avocado, turkey bacon, fried eggs, cheddar, lettuce and tomato); build-your-own and signature omelettes such as a Greek, Philly cheesesteak and veggie; and “breakfast classics” such as corned beef hash and eggs, shrimp and grits and huevos rancheros.
For lunch and dinner, individuals will be able to enjoy sappetizers such as chicken wings, pierogies, loaded French fries, ultimate nachos and guacamole with chips; specialty sandwiches such as a tuna melt, Cubano, classic reuben, signature French dip, crab cake sandwich and chicken parm sandwich; and pasta selections such as chicken alfredo, chicken Marsala, shrimp scampi, spaghetti and meatballs and penna alla vodka; and
Among the roughly two dozen entrees and seafood platters will be homemade baked meatloaf, chicken Francaise, New York strip steak, barbecue baby back ribs, Yuengling-battered fish and chips, fried shrimp, broiled 8-ounce salmon filet and a broiled seafood combo (crab cake, flounder, shrimp, sea scallops, tartar and cocktail sauces, lemon and one side)
Other menu highlights will include a wide array of burgers, club sandwiches, hot open-faced sandwiches, quesadillas, tacos, soups and salads.
No alcoholic beverages will be served.
Lopez and his team implemented minor upgrades, including new furniture, wall paint and other cosmetic updates.
The property features multiple dining rooms, and seasonal outdoor dining also will be available on a covered patio.
The restaurant is tentatively set to operate 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays, Lopez said.
It will be a family-run establishment with Lopez’s wife, Lucia, and daughter helping out.
“My son is a Marine, but he will also help out when he can when he’s home,” Lopez said.
Lopez has more than 25 years of experience in the restaurant industry, with previous culinary gigs at a variety of other local, full-service dining establishments.
“I am very excited to bring [Gigi & Alex] to the local community,” Lopez said. “This will be my first restaurant, but I’ve worked in other restaurants and learned a lot from them over the years.”
Gigi & Alex will operate at the site of the former Wings on Main Sparts Bar & Grille, which closed in June after eight years of operation.
Owner Jay Tulio opened Wings on Main in July 2019 at the site of the former 1774 Grill & Tap restaurant, which closed in 2018 after roughly two years of business.
The Main Street building also was the longtime home of Mexican restaurant Ricardo’s Original Tavern House (formerly Pancho’s Villa), which closed in 2016 after nearly 50 years of business.
“We appreciate our customers and friends that have supported us in the past 8 years,” reads an announcement on Wings on Main’s Facebook page.
“As of Sunday June 28, 2026 we will be closing our doors at 8:00pm for good, to venture on. Keep an eye open for a new addition to Hellertown at this location. Thank you again for the years of support.”
