BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA — Officials imagined a playground replacement project that would be the toast of the township two years ago. And now those plans are starting to become a reality.
Township officials have now outlined the timeline to replace the Imagination Land Playground at its Township Council meeting on Monday night. See the timeline below
The project was conceived two years ago as officials formulated design ideas with General Recreation Inc.
Since then, project designs were set in January 2024, with the council approving the project in May. In November 2024, a $386,300 DCNR grant was awarded (50 percent of the project).
This year, officials held a pre-contracting meeting with DCNR in January, and had final plans approved by the DCNR in July. Officials said Monday that contractors have now been lined up.
“A concept that started as a dream is in the final stages before construction thanks to a matched grant funded by the DCNR,” officials said. “The replacement of Imagination Land Playground has taken two years of planning, grant applications, design, funding, and permits. Finally, we are lining up contractors and awaiting approval from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to break ground on the project.”
Officials said the new playground will feature equipment for all children, including an ADA-accessible carousel, adaptive swing/zip line seats, ADA belt ladders, and sensory stations, to name a few.
“Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo, Bensalem Council, and Parks & Recreation are excited to bring this one-of-a-kind imagination into reality in the very near future,” officials said.
