UKAVETS 80th anniversary
The American Ukrainian Veterans Association of Lackawanna County will celebrate its 80th anniversary Saturday at 237 Railroad Ave., Scranton. The dinner portion of the celebration will be held from 4-7 p.m. and is limited to 100 guests. The cost is $20 per person for members ($30 for nonmembers) and includes dinner and drinks. Post 25 pasta dinner fundraiser
VFW Post 25 and Auxiliary, Scranton, pasta dinner fundraiser, Saturday, 1-4 p.m., 2291 Rockwell Ave., $15, includes penne pasta with red sauce and meatballs, Caesar salad and dessert. There will also be prizes and basket raffles. All profits will be donated to the VFW Post 25 Auxiliary Children’s Fund.
Dupont VFW Post 4909 Sock Hop dinner-dance
Dupont VFW Post 4909 Home Association’s annual Sock Hop party, Saturday, post home; doors open 4:30 p.m., dinner served 6, and music, 7-10. POW/MIA Recognition Day
POW/MIA Recognition Day will be conducted Sept. 18 with a missing-man ceremony at 4 p.m. at Scranton Veterans Memorial Park, adjacent to Scranton Veterans Memorial Stadium. Joe Sylvester will conduct the ceremony. Bill Stevens, Jim Casella and Pat Ahern will participate. The public is invited.
Sept. 11 memorial ceremony
Abington Memorial VFW Post 7069, Clarks Summit, will conduct a Sept. 11 memorial ceremony at the Waverly Community House flagpole starting at 9:30 a.m. to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. The public is invited.
Chicken barbecue
VFW Post 7069 and its auxiliary will hold a chicken barbecue Sept. 26, serving from 3 to 6 p.m. or until sold out. Donation is $15, which includes half a chicken, baked potatoes, vegetables, coleslaw, roll and butter, and dessert. Also includes a 50/50 raffle and basket raffle.
