Railfest 2026 returns to Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton from September 4-6, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. each day.
This Labor Day weekend celebration explores railroading’s past, present and future. This year marks Steamtown’s 40th anniversary as a national park site, 200 years of American railroading and America’s 250th anniversary. Baldwin No. 26 serves as the event’s feature steam locomotive.
Visitors can see historic visiting railroad equipment, explore exhibits and watch demonstrations throughout the weekend. Activities include locomotive shop demonstrations, Big Boy cab tours, model trains, railroad heritage programs, musical performances and special railyard tours.
Train rides aboard the Scranton Limited and caboose hops will be available for a fee. Other highlights include equipment demonstrations, community partner displays and the first “Life on the Railroad” Costume Contest.
Admission to Railfest is free, with fees for select rides. A free shuttle will connect Railfest with La Festa Italiana in downtown Scranton.
