EAGLE LAKE, Pa. — One week from today marks the 25th anniversary of 9/11, and a community in Lackawanna County honored the grim milestone with an annual memorial service.
Eagle Lake Community Association held the somber ceremony along Hughes Boulevard in Covington Township beginning at 11 this morning.
This is the 18th year the association has held the service.

Organizers say the memorial acts as a way to remember and honor veterans, emergency responders, and all the innocent lives lost during the September 11th attacks.
“It’s especially sentimental when you hear the stories. No story is the same. It never gets old listening to them, and I think for me, um, I was alive. I do remember where I was. I was much younger, and for me, uh, it’s important that we pass this along to the younger generations,” said Paula Perry of the Eagle Lake Community Association.
During the service in Lackawanna County, 25 roses were placed around a memorial, with each flower representing every year that has passed since September 11th.
