SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — A 17-year-old girl allegedly carrying a concealed handgun kicked, spit on and headbutted Scranton police officers while resisting arrest early Sunday morning.
Scranton Police said a special detail assigned to the city’s Hill Section encountered what officers described as an armed, violent confrontation in the 400 block of Taylor Avenue around 1:51 a.m.
Police said the 17-year-old ran from officers before she was eventually caught following a foot pursuit.
During the arrest, police allege the teenager physically resisted officers by kicking, spitting and headbutting them. She also allegedly tried to remove a concealed gun from her waistband.
Officers recovered a 9mm handgun with an extended magazine from the girl’s waistband, according to police.
Police said the teenager was already on juvenile probation.
She was taken to the Northampton County Juvenile Detention Center and faces charges including carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm by a minor, loitering and prowling at night, recklessly endangering another person, six counts of aggravated assault, terroristic threats, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
According to police, the teenager had been among a large group engaged in disorderly activity in the area, including fighting, trespassing and blocking traffic.
Because the suspect is a juvenile, police did not release her name.
