The Slovak Heritage Society of Northeastern Pennsylvania held its annual meeting at The Café, state Route 315, Plains Twp., on Sept. 10.
There were 27 members in attendance.
Board members gave oral reports on the activities that were held during the year and the financial status of the society was presented by Treasurer Helen Bacumpas.
Election of board members was held. The following were elected to serve a three-year term: Helen Bacumpas, Anna Hudock, Anthony Palischak, Elaine Palischak, Michael Stretanski, and Robert Zavada. The Rev. Andrew S. Hvozdovic will serve as chaplain.
Dorothy Sullivan was recognized by Elaine Palischak for her years of service on the board.
Elaine Palischak announced the activities planned for the year. Upcoming events include a Mass honoring living and deceased veterans and the celebration of the Feast of St. Nicholas.
A Mass honoring living and deceased veterans will be celebrated at 12:05 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at the Chapel of Christ the King at King’s College, 29 W. North St., Wilkes-Barre. The chapel is handicapped accessible.
The Feast of St. Nicholas will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, at St. Ignatius Loyola Church, 339 N. Maple Ave., Kingston. An afternoon filled with song and storytelling of past Slovak Christmas traditions will take place. Refreshments will be served, followed by fellowship. Everyone is invited to participate free of charge; a free-will offering will be accepted.
