Union workers celebrating organized labor on Labor Day in Downtown Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH —
Thousands of union workers gathered in downtown Pittsburgh on Labor Day to celebrate the contributions of organized labor and advocate for workers’ rights.
Union members from various sectors, including steelworkers, carpenters, firefighters, and law enforcement officers, participated in the parade.
The day began with a rally calling for a policy that would provide workers in Allegheny County with 18 weeks of paid parental leave.
The yearly parade showcases the diversity of organized labor in the region.
“I mean, it’s great if you see all the support that Pittsburgh has for our unions, it shows. And then also what the unions do for us each and every day and how they fight for their workers. And it’s great to see not only their unions here, but all their workers came out with them. And it’s a special day,” Pittsburgh Mayor Corey O’Connor said.
