Kacey Musgraves has never been afraid to get a little weird, but her Middle of Nowhere Tour has taken that philosophy to an entirely different level. 

The country star has been turning heads with one of the most ridiculous and undeniably hilarious stage props of the year: two enormous, anatomically correct sparkly disco balls. 

And when Musgraves brought the spectacle to Philadelphia, even the arena security staff couldn’t keep a straight face. 

During her September 4 performance at Xfinity Mobile Arena, Musgraves brought out the giant disco balls during “Rhinestoned,” just as she had at other stops on the tour. A fan captured the reactions of security workers around the arena as they watched the unexpected spectacle unfold. 

Let’s just say they seemed thoroughly entertained. 

According to the video shared online, the security workers can be seen laughing and looking around at one another as Musgraves rides around the stage on her very shiny, very anatomically suggestive props. The clip quickly caught fans’ attention, with plenty of viewers finding the guards’ genuine reactions almost as funny as the performance itself. 

“This Is What It Looks Like When No One Tells Me No” 

The outrageous prop first made its debut when Musgraves kicked off the Middle of Nowhere Tour in Chicago. 

During “Rhinestoned,” the singer rides around on the giant disco balls while fully embracing the absurdity of the whole thing. 

“This is what it looks like when no one tells me no,” Musgraves joked with the crowd. 

The stunt also fits perfectly with the cheekier side of Musgraves’ latest album, Middle of Nowhere. The record includes the cheeky song “Dry Spell,” which finds the singer getting considerably more candid about being single and missing some “action.” 

Musgraves has clearly decided that if she’s going to lean into the theme, she might as well go all the way. 

Kacey Is Clearly Having Fun With It 

The giant disco balls aren’t just a random gag. They fit into the playful, provocative personality Musgraves has embraced throughout the Middle of Nowhere era. Aside from releasing cheeky songs and getting all sexy and sultry in music videos, Musgraves also partnered with Medicine Mama to launch Drought Drops, a limited-edition lubricant (which reportedly sold out following its launch).

However, not everyone is a fan of Musgraves’ new emboldened personality. 

One fan commented that they couldn’t get behind the giant testicle-shaped disco balls. 

“Well, maybe you can get in front of them.”
