BETHLEHEM — The time capsule buried as part of the Town’s celebration of the nation’s 250th birthday on July 4 was officially dedicated in a ceremony held on the Town Green on August 29. In his remarks, First Selectman Ray Butkus stated, “when this capsule is opened on July 4 2076, as the Town celebrates the country’s tricentennial, citizens will get a glimpse of life in Bethlehem 50 years in the past and how it celebrated the nation’s semiquincentennial.”
Selectman and event Co-chair, George Rehkamp then read a list of contents of the capsule which includes such items as the event commemorative booklet, a Bethlehem Christmas Town ornament, USPS 250th Anniversary stamps, an event challenge coin, a 100th anniversary ticket to Bethlehem Fair and several letters to the future from Bethlehem Elementary School students and many other items.
Selectman Jennie Gallo did the honors of unveiling the cast bronze plaque.
