A 40-year-old Luzerne County woman stole nearly $700 of merchandise from Dick’s House of Sport in Scranton on Saturday, police said.
Sameerah Woods — who police discovered had two prior retail theft convictions — placed eight clothing products in a bag and walked out of the store at 440 Viewmont Drive without paying, according to a criminal complaint.
When Patrolman Ryan Seprish responded to the store inside the Viewmont Mall Monday around 7:12 p.m., Kenneth Mascaro, the loss prevention officer for Dick’s, stated he was investigating a retail theft totaling $687.99 that occurred on Saturday, in which the female suspect was wearing a black T-shirt, gray shorts, and a black hat, police said.
One of Mascaro’s co-workers identified Woods as the suspect after viewing footage of the incident, according to the criminal complaint.
Additionally, Seprish observed a photo from one of Woods’ social media accounts where she was wearing the same clothing and jewelry as shown on the video surveillance from the theft incident, police said.
Seprish also noted Woods could been seen carrying clothing in her hands inside the store on the surveillance video before being spotted with the clothing in a bag outside the mall, the officer wrote in the criminal complaint.
Police charged Woods, 408 Mark Drive, Hanover Twp., with retail theft. Woods was released on $10,000 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 21 at 10:15 a.m.
