LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — Drivers traveling south on Interstate 81 should prepare for daytime lane restrictions beginning Thursday as PennDOT repairs a drainage system and an embankment failure.
The restrictions will affect I-81 southbound between Dickson City and Main Avenue in Scranton.
Work is scheduled to begin Thursday, September 10, and continue through Friday, September 18.
Lane restrictions will be in effect each day between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
PennDOT said crews will repair a drainage network and an embankment failure along the highway shoulder.
Drivers are being encouraged to use alternate routes when possible.
Motorists traveling through the construction area should also be prepared for delays and changing traffic patterns. PennDOT advises drivers approaching work zones to slow down, pay attention to signs and avoid distractions.
The work comes amid several ongoing and planned improvements along I-81 in Lackawanna County, including major pavement, bridge and roadway preservation projects.
