READING, Pa. – Pennsylvania State Police say it will be offering free car seat checks, in conjunction with National Child Passenger Safety Week.
National Child Passenger Safety Week is from Sunday, September 20 to Saturday, September 26, state police said in a news release.
State police will be offering free car seat checks on the following dates and times in Reading:
Sunday, September 20th 6:00a – 2:00p
Monday, September 21st 10:00a – 6:00p
Tuesday, September 22nd 7:00a – 6:00 p
Wednesday, September 23rd 6:00a – 7:00p
Thursday, September 24th 6:00a – 2:00p
Friday, September 25th 7:00a – 11:00p
No appointment is necessary.
State police said the venue will be AAA Reading-Berks, on 920 Van Reed Road, Reading, PA 19610.
Troopers will be strongly enforcing any violation of the Commonwealth’s seat belt and child passenger restraint laws, state police said.
Vehicle crashes are one of the leading causes of death, with most of those fatalities being attributed to unbelted drivers, according to state police.
State police will also conduct car seat checks in Lehigh and Bucks counties:
Sunday, September 20, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley on 2845 Center Valley Parkway in Upper Saucon Township
Monday, September 21 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Warrington Fire Company on 2310 Freedoms Way in Warrington.
The free checks give families a chance to make sure their children’s restraints are fitted and installed correctly and to address any concerns they might have about car seat safety.
Because there is no appointment required, parents and caregivers can stop by during the scheduled hours that best fit their plans during National Child Passenger Safety Week.
State police noted the combination of enforcement and education is aimed at reducing injuries and fatalities on the roads. The department emphasized that properly used seat belts and child restraints are a simple but effective way to protect people of all ages in a crash.
