Nissan North America, in partnership with Tom Hesser Nissan of Dunmore, has donated a 2021 Nissan Sentra to Johnson College to support its Automotive Technology and Collision Repair programs.
The vehicle was formally presented to the college during a ceremony Sept. 9 at Johnson College. Representatives from Nissan North America, Tom Hesser Nissan and the college attended the event.
The Sentra will be used as a training vehicle for students preparing for careers in automotive service and collision repair. Students will use it to develop diagnostic, mechanical and bodywork skills through hands-on coursework.
“Supporting Johnson College isn’t just something we do as a business — it’s something our entire family believes in wholeheartedly,” said Dean Hesser, owner and president of Tom Hesser Dealerships. “We live and work in this community, and we want to see these students succeed.”
Hesser said the dealership has worked closely with Johnson College President Katie Pittelli and Jim Williams, program director of the Automotive Technology and Collision Repair programs, to align students’ training with industry needs.
The partnership also extends to employment. Tom Hesser Nissan has participated in the college’s hiring track, recruiting graduates for service and technician positions at the dealership.
The college said the donated vehicle will be incorporated into hands-on instruction in both programs, giving students experience working with a modern vehicle under the guidance of faculty.
