SPRING TWP., Pa. – In honor of Hunger Action Month, The Giant Company is making a giant donation to Berk’s Helping Harvest Food Bank.
“We really need their help very much,” said Helping Harvest’s President Jay Worral.
The grocery store chain donated $35,000 to the food bank.
Worral said that money will help keep their trucks running.
“Diesel fuel is very expensive right now, and it’ll help us move this food to the people who need it,” said Worral.
Worral says they’re on pace to distribute 14 million pounds of food this year to the community.
More than double what they were distributing just five years ago.
“The need is very great,” said Worral.
Along with the money, Giant employees also picked fresh produce to donate.
And helped volunteers pack it into bags to distribute at their mobile market.
“So, we really appreciate Giant’s support and the support of all the people who are helping us right now,” said Worral.
Jasmin Patel has been volunteering at Helping Harvest Community Kitchen for nearly 2 years.
“It’s a great organization to be working with,” said Patel.
Patel comes and works with her coworkers from Teleflex Medical.
She says it’s a fun way to give back.
“And you get to have a good time doing it, and you feel good giving back to your local community,” said Patel.
Helping Harvest welcomes anyone who wants to volunteer.
“They’re very responsive, and they’ll get right back to you, and always willing to take whatever help they can get,” said Patel.
