Fiesta on the Square is bringing members of Erie’s Latino community together to celebrate Hispanic heritage, culture and inclusion.
The event highlights the strong presence of Latino community members in Erie while giving others an opportunity to learn about the cultures and contributions that are shaping the community.
Fiesta on the Square is focused on celebrating Latino culture while creating more opportunities for involvement and connection. Organizers say representation and guidance are especially important as people from countries across Latin America continue to call Erie home.
The event will feature local food vendors, live music, family activities and a dance competition.
Maria Ortiz, a board member of the Erie Latino Association, says the organization’s goal is to empower, educate and guide the Latino community.
“Our goal is to empower, educate, guide the Latino community,” Ortiz said.
Ortiz says Erie’s Latino community includes people from countries including Mexico, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Brazil, Guatemala, El Salvador and Ecuador.
She says the diversity within the community creates a need for representation and guidance to help people grow and become more involved in Erie.
